Index entry looks promising.
No Randle on image displayed, but - Note there are two Sub-pages - A or B.
- Here is a George Randle - [Good candidate - since some children born in Ohio as was Annie. But no proof as Annie is not in household and wife is Margaret not Mary per Annie's marriage info].
The census citation/index - "Series: T623 Roll: 1340 Page: 157 RANDLE GEORGE 55 M W ENGL OK OKLAHOMA LINCOLN TWP 1900"
Learn - George 55 in 1900 b. England.
Wife Margaret [is this Mary??] b. Wales. Several older children at home born in Wales, younger ones in Ohio after 1880.
- Had we found no reasonable George Randle candidates then we should also
try George Randel/Randal/Randall/etc. candidates. Later we'll see a way to do this more easily.
- We have every expectation of finding this George Randle Family in Ohio because Annie, 19 at marriage in 1894 was also born in Ohio about 1875, the children spanning the 1880 census. But if we can't find George in Ohio then we'll look for more Candidates in Oklahoma
- Key - Surname: Randle Census Year: 1880 State: Ohio Birthplace: England
Can't find George with this key or with [Randall/Randal/Randle/Randle] in Ohio (b. England)] in 1880 census
Maybe George Randle was missed by the enumerator. Should we stop looking?
Shall we try more spellings of the last name? Which?
- Or maybe there is a different way to search if we don't know the
spelling of the last name. Does Spelling Matter?
- Try Key - Surname: _________ Given Name: George Census Year: 1880 State: Ohio County: _________ Age 31-40 Sex _________ Race: _________ Birthplace: England [The age range of course because George was 55 in 1900]
- There are 320 hits. We don't want to look at every census image.
- Note if number of candidates is 1000 or Greater the Heritage Quest site will not display the details and another approach will have to be used
- Display all, then look in the surnames beginning with "R" for a George
- The first, George Randal is a Boarder, so continue looking.
Even if this is the George we are looking for, we can't prove it from this information.
- George Randals (Note Spelling!) is a Hit! See the correspondence of wife and
children between 1880 in Ohio and 1900 in Oklahoma. And here is Annie - age 3 !!
Citation Record/Index - "Series: T9 Roll: 1003 Page: 82 RANDALS GEORGE 34 W ENGL OH COSHOCTON JACKSON 1880"
