NB. In the examples which follow, the data to be entered in the Query or Search Field of the Form are in "quotes". Don't enter the quotes. Similarly, the options to be selected are also in "quotes".
- Sites Using Complex Forms
- Go to
Archives Search at RootsWeb
- Using the "Advanced" tab
- At "List:" enter a list name Eg. "Galloway" and at "Year:" enter "2004"
Query can be as just these two Keys or combined with an additional entry for example in the "Body:" such as -
- Single word - "Mercer"
- Both or All words - "Mercer and Illinois"
or "Mercer and Illinois and Veteran"
Note that the "and" is a required part of the entry.
- Either or Any of the words - "Mercer or
Illinois" or "David or Samuel or James"
Similarly the "or" is a required part of the entry.
Notice in the Keyword entry mode how logic is done
- Complex - Using Boolean Logic Representation With Multiple Levels designated by parenthesis. - Eg. "(IL or Ill or Illinois) and Mercer"
Try this query to find all messages to the "Galloway" list which contain the words "Mercer" and at least one of the words "IL" or "Ill" or "Illinois" This is an example of limiting the search, without having to guess how the author might have spelled Illinois.
Unfortunately at this site there is a restriction (an implementation error?) so that the search will not handle more than two words within parenthesis.
So reword the search to "Mercer and (IL or (Ill or Illinois))"
- Phrases are also accommodated, so that entering a phrase such as
"James Galloway" (this time add the enclosing quotes) will find occurrences of the name
phrase - James Galloway.
