Lyceum Course - Internet Genealogy - Search Expectations
- Don't Expect All Searches To Be Simple or Easy
- Example Problem -
- You Know Your Ancestor "Mary
Jones" (and
the name of a few possible siblings - "Polly" and "Linda")
- Someone else knows their
Ancestor - say "Linda Jones" the sister of the person you're researching
- But they don't know the name
"Mary Jones" - your ancestor
- So you can't search on your
ancestor's name and expect to get a hit
- Since You Know "Polly Jones" and
"Linda Jones" Try Searching For Them
- Remember - You need a key to find a record - The
computer will use the key "Mechanically"
- But some keys yield too many records.
- The record you need may not contain the
"key" you are using.
- The method of the search software you
are using
may preclude your use of the "best key".
- And of course - the record you seek may
not exist, at least at the site where it most
logically
should occur. Then, no key will work.
- But just because you can't find the
record
doesn't mean it isn't there to be found.
