Definition of Terrain Ranking System

The following definitions are from the STBC Newsletter Ride Rating system for terrain:

1. Multiple long and/or steep climbs
2. Multiple and/or large hills
3. Rolling with some hills
4. Generally flat or rolling

However, this rating system is very subjective. And in a case where a ride has different terrain over different portions of the ride, this data base will give a double rank, eg. 3-2. Indicating that there are some sections of the ride which have a 2 terrain, though most of the ride is rated a 3.
