Lyceum Course - Internet Genealogy - Browser Familiarization

Primary Browser Function
- Displays files of file type .htm or .html
- Locates these files using Links
  - This Link When clicked takes you to a copy of this page on the Internet (OR to itself if you started on the Internet)
  - The Address Window is the form entry line at top where the URL of this displayed page is showing.
    Actually - http://jaysweb.us/lyceum/inetgene/ing.browse.familiar.html
    The constituent parts are -
    - http:// The protocol (Note: Some newer browsers do not display this.)
    - URL Universal Resource Locator
      - jaysweb.us The domain name
      - /lyceum/inetgene/ Path to file
      - File name ing.browse.familiar.html the file type is htm OR html
- We can see the actual html source file
- Under Menu "View", entry "Page Source" we see (Note: browser dependent)
  - The actual Source file
  - And as Formatted we see what is displayed on the monitor.
- Note: On some browsers this Menu can be seen by a right click on the page.
Additional Features of Your Browser
- These are primarily to aid "navigation"
  - Back and Forward Arrows
  - Icons - for Various Functions
  - Drop Down Menus
- History Remembering where your recent browsing activity took place.
- Bookmarks (Firefox) or Favorites (Internet Explorer) - Your constructed outline/lists/directory of useful URLs
- These capabilities all aid Internet surfing and searching.
- Additionally there are optional features such as TABS and Tabbed Browsing
Additional Features of the Page Displayed by Your Browser
- Back and Forward Arrows - These are iconified Links (Note: Old style not Used Much Now)
- Forms For entry of data or search key information
  - Buttons Example Click on "Sign Up Now" Button under "Not registered yet" - just to view, obviously not to register.
  - Menus Site with Down List and Drop Down List per Wikipedia
  - And Search Button Google Advanced Search To activate transmission of your search data to the search engine (server).
